How to participate
Participation in local decision-making is the way individuals and groups can help shape the future of Buller for current and future generations.
You can have your say in a number of ways:
- Participate in ongoing consultations.
- Follow Council meetings and committees. You can find the agendas and meetings on our website or watch the live streams on our YouTube channel.
- Speaking at meetings. A public forum is held at the start of ordinary public meetings to allow members of the community to address Council by Zoom. If you want to address Council by Zoom, contact the Governance Assistant to arrange by emailing governance.assistant@bdc.govt.nz or by phoning 03 788 9111.
Local Government NZ has many ways for people to participate in local government and be involved in council decision-making. These include:
- Voting for council
- Standing as a candidate for council
- Making a submission on the boundaries for wards and constituencies – the representation arrangements
- Contributing to a consultation or making a submission on a council plan (including the long-term plan or annual plan) or other proposal.
- Attending council meetings
The greater the participation of the community in Council's decision-making, the more likely Council decisions and actions will match short and long-term community aspirations.
